Cindy wanted it to feel like Christmas
Cindy’s feedback on the catering page was about its missing festive feel. I asked the agent to change the design while keeping the menu details and prices intact.
On the evening of 31 October, after the catering page had gone online, I gave the agent a screenshot of Cindy’s feedback. She said it had no festive atmosphere and pointed out that this was for Christmas. The page had the ordering information, but her comment asked for something the list of dishes could not supply on its own: a visual sense of the occasion.
I then asked the agent to make the catering page feel more Christmassy and publish the update. I added one condition: keep the menu details and prices unchanged. Cindy had supplied the design direction. My instruction gave the agent a specific part of the page to change and a set of facts to retain.
The update added a holly and pine garland, berry-red ribbons and evergreen accents. The pink invitation panel gained a softer frame. In Cindy’s phone screenshot, the small asterisk above the invitation appeared as a bright green emoji. The agent replaced it with a drawn holly ornament, so that spot had a deliberate Christmas decoration too.
The festive treatment stayed on the catering page. Its 23 menu entries, prices, serving units, minimum quantities and ordering arrangements were checked against the earlier version. The links from the homepages and the existing weekly menu stayed unchanged. This was useful to keep explicit in a design task: a new look did not require a new price, a different serving size or another promise about delivery.
The agent checked the layout at desktop and narrow phone widths, then checked the published page and its files after the update went live. The saved comparison showed that the menu information was unchanged, while the new decorations were present. Those checks established what had been changed on the website; they did not establish that the design would bring more enquiries.
This was a small follow-up to the previous diary’s catering-page story, completed later on the same day. Cindy’s feedback identified what was missing. I passed that direction to the agent with the menu facts held fixed, and the agent carried out the visual revision. The result was a Christmas treatment for the page we already had, with the same information underneath.
