Pandan squeezed fresh, coconut freshly grated, layers steamed one at a time — real kuih is slow, handmade work. 这就是好糕点在悉尼难找的原因。

The kuih of a Nyonya kitchen

Glutinous rice, coconut milk, pandan and gula Melaka — a rainbow of textures from four humble things.

娘惹厨房的手作糕点

Kuih (also spelled kueh) are the bite-sized steamed cakes and sweets of Malaysia. Real Nyonya kuih is slow work — which is why good kuih is so hard to find in Sydney.

Mama steams a different selection each week, and the mixed boxes have become the favourite way to try a bit of everything — and the way the Malaysian community caters morning teas that taste like home.

Frequently Asked Questions

What kuih do you make? +

The repertoire includes pandan seri muka, pumpkin-skin angku kuih, kuih ketayap (kuih dadar), pulut inti, pulut tai tai with caramel kaya, cendol sago kuih, kuih talam, Teochew chwee kuih, baked cassava kuih (bingka ubi), kuih kodok, steamed nian gao and Mama's signature peanut mochi. A different selection is steamed each week.

How do the kuih boxes work? +

Box sizes and combinations vary by batch. Read the dated selection, exact piece count and whole-box price on this page or the current menu. A seasonal mixed box is not an always-available product; the kitchen must confirm your request.

Do you take kuih orders for events? +

For morning teas, celebrations or gifts, ask the kitchen about a suitable batch a few days ahead. The available mix, quantity, date and final price need confirmation; large orders depend on kitchen capacity.
